PR 7 Blog Submission Site

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

Just wanted to shard a great new resource I have found recently with everyone who reads this blog.  The site is http://www.lsblogs.com/ and you can submit blogs to its directory for free!  You can also submit your main URL and RSS/ATOM as well.  It is a great resource that carries a pretty impressive page rank that could get you more exposure and traffic.  Hope everyone has as much success with this blog as I have!

Digg Spam

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

Ok now when I first got started with using Digg and the community it has I was  not the best user.  I Dugg my own stories and really did not have an idea of how it worked (like I have said many times before SHAME on the so called “gurus of SES NYC 06 teaching me how to use these communities wrong).  As time went on and I got yelled at by users for Digg Spam I learned my lessons and also learned how really powerful this community is.  I know why people spam it, cause even so you will get a ton of traffic.  I am not saying its ok to Spam them, infact this blog is going to say just the opposite, I am just saying I understand why people do it.  (traffic is amazing)

The reason I write this post is because I am amazed at the way people are making money online (and I have been making money online for the last 9 years) so thats saying something.

Here is why I am amazed:  I was in some forums the other day and found some people offering services to “digg your stories for a small fee.  (normally a buck)  Not bad, but the more I thought of this, the more I felt the creators, and real users of Digg probably cringe at the thought of this.  If they wanted people that could afford to get to the top they would just use the regular search engines.  Digg has a good reputation of getting the good stories to the top by user recommendation, and not puffed up results, or the results of a big marketing budget.

So, if people are starting to get paid to “digg stories” don’t you think that is a form of spam?

Here is an idea, WRITE A STORY OR ARTICLE WORTH DIGGING!!  If you have a blog and have some followers, make it easy for them to digg your stories.  After each article put a link like so:  Did you like this story?  Digg it and share with others.  Alot of blog softwares out there have plug-ins for social bookmarking as well that can make it easier.  If you are providing readers with quality info they will share with others.  That is how Digg and other communities like it have thrived and done so well lately.  We don’t want the crap results we get from most search engines.  We want whats most recommended or in this case “dugg” and that helps us avoid spam.  And any time we can avoid spam that makes for a happier day!

Did you like this article?  Digg it and share with others.

SEO and Google Video - how do the two relate?

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006

Something I have been thinking about for a while is, finding a way to take advantage of Google Video from a Search Engine Optimization point of view.  Can it be done?  I think so!  If you do a search on Google for “Mattress” you get over 3 million results, yet only 112 something in Google Video for the same keyphrase.

Here is a great idea that I have for taking advantage of Google Video:

  • Create and upload your own video.  For example if I were to create some Videos for this site they could be tutorials on how to better optimizate your site with content.  How would I create those videos?  I found a cool new download/tool thanks to a friend who sells Cold air intakes on his website.  (Thanks Vince)  - If you’ve ever heard of “Camtasia Studio”, it’s a program that allows you to record your screen and actions and even record your voice through a mic for a presentation (BUT, it carries with it a heafty price tag of $300).  This program is called “Camstudio” and it’s free.  I downloaded it and it has great quality and you can even opt in for the voice recorder too if you have a mic.  You just tell it to record, and then, after you press stop, it automatically pulls up a “save as” box for you to save it an .avi file (for Window Media Player).  Once you’ve save it to your computer, you can play it, do slight alterations and even convert it into a .swf file to place on a site.  Anyhow…the site is http://www.camstudio.org/and you can just scroll down to the .exe link and download it.  Once you have created the file then go to your Google Videos account and upload the Video right there.  Make sure when naming the video you are keeping your keywords in mind.

So I have just showed you how to take advantage of Google Video to get traffic, as well as how to create the actual video so you really can take advantage of it.

Matt Cutts Leaving Google for Yahoo!

Saturday, September 2nd, 2006

Ok, don’t stop breathing and look outside - the sky is not falling - and Matt Cutt’s is staying put with Google (to bad for Yahoo!).  So why the false headline?  I wanted to make a point.  You probably clicked on the post to see what the heck Matt is doing, or may have thought this was untrue, but just had to see what was going on.  You have just fallen for the SEO tactic of link baiting.  I am not promoting it by any means, but just thought I’d share this tactic because recently I feel for it - see here - link baiting.

I fell for it on Digg of all places.  Good job to the creator of the article (if you want read the article its a good read, and where I got the idea for this post)

Now link baiting is not new by any means and I am not a big fan of it, but it I think it brings out a good point of creating catchy headlines that will pull people in to your blog.

Even Matt Cutts ventured into the world of link baiting a few months ago (even though it was an April Fools joke) and tricked us all for just a few seconds that he had traded spaces with Jeremy from Yahoo!

Like it or hate it, link baiting is here to stay and is making alot of people a ton of money as a little known SEO tactic in blogging/articles/press or anything else where we get information out!

Trump website hacked?

Friday, September 1st, 2006

Just came across something I thought was so freaking funny! My best guess is that the Donald does not want to his site to say Trump Small Penis and other related terms…

BUT thats what you see in the results for Google when you type in “trump” and the Trump website is the #1 result but take a look at the information that Google is pulling? (more…)
