The SMO (Social Media Optimization) Debate

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

With the recent leashing out of Jason Calacanis against SEO’s I thought I would add my two cents about Social Media Optimization (and SEO’s) as well.

I have no problem with calling myself an SEO, internet marketer, “someone who can help you get traffic”. I really don’t care. The honest truth of the fact is that talking to regular people on the street that ask me what I do for a living, give me a “deer in the headlight look” when I say “SEO”, which is then usually followed by; “You know, when you type in a word on a search engine and get the top results”. If some people do not like the term “SEO” I can’t help that, its just what the industry I am in has dubbed me because of what I do.

However, I do have a problem with the term SMO (Social Media Optimization) (more…)

Google is making all SEO Black Hat

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

I am adding to fire (I know) with even posting this, but I have been so annoyed lately with all of the posts I have been reading about SEO and ethics. I read about: buying links, white-hat-seo vs black-hat-seo techniques, what is ethical and what is not when it comes to search engine optimization, what to disclose with clients you are doing SEO for, what Matt Cutts says … etc etc etc… I am done with it after adding my two cents.

I hate all the debate, and here is 10 reasons why: (more…)

Here is a Method that is Helping Affiliate Marketers to get Higher CTR

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

I really do not talk about the topic of affilate marketing alot on this blog, but I am a pretty heavy affiliate marketer. It all got started for me back in the day of the Janet Jackson super bowl “wardrobe malfunction”. Back in those days I just could tweak some title tags and descriptions to make huge bank. I also learned how easy it was to use programs like GoClick and Google Adsense to make a ton of money ( I am talking about an average of $1200/day). (more…)

Who else wants quality branding for free?

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

With all the talk about branding yourself (and business), and getting your name out there (in your industry) it can be hard to figure out where to start. What does it all mean?? I am surrounded by people all day that preach branding, yet every single one of them have failed to give me a good definition of it. (more…)

Go Daddy - Go Away!

Monday, February 5th, 2007

I know everyone watched the super bowl right? If you did then you probably saw the Go Daddy commercial. I know they have been on a marketing “sex” kick lately, but its old, overdone and borring and my message is simple - “go away”.

Your marketing is no longer making me want to buy a domain name from you, infact it’s making me want to stay away. The commercial was predictable. I had not seen it before it aired, but as I was watching it I knew exactly what was going to happen. Way to predicatable Go Daddy!

I would love to hear from anyone else who thinks the same as me.

Overture will finally be dead today!

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Ok, you may be saying to yourself “Overture has been dead for a while when Yahoo took them over”, and you would be correct, but the platform they used for Pay Per Click, and “highest bid rules” as of 3 PM PST will be a thing of the past with the roll out of their new Yahoo Panama platform. (more…)

Kevin Federline Super Bowl Commercial

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

Ok, I am not a KFed, FedEx, (whatever you call him) Kevin Federline fan at all. I just got done watching his super bowl commercial, and have to admit it was probably one of the best commercials I have seen all game so far!

It was one of the Nationwide Insurance commercials that talks about life coming at you fast. I know you all remember the one with MC Hammer.

It showed Kevin Federline (more…)

Google Local Search Stomping on Organic Listings

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007

I wrote a post yesterday for the new YOUmoz feature of SEOmoz on how Google Local has become more important than ever in the organic results. Before I talk about the new Google Local integration i wanted to give a shout out to the new design and features at SEOmoz. The Matt did a great job on the design but i was perticularly impressed with the new user features such as the YOUmoz and post tracking and all kinds of stuff. It is also cool to see that they are monetizing their mindshare as it is HUGE, by charging for access to advanced reports, tools and other perks. (more…)

Stop “SEOing” in the 90’s

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007

I have read a few posts lately on others outlook on “page rank”, and that has prompted me to post another update as to why people should stop focusing on page rank so much. I try to teach and educate people to the best of my ability, but sometimes I guess stubbornness (or pride) outweighs other people’s ability (or want) for success. Oh well, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink, right? (more…)

Lame attack on breastfeeding mom

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

I have to add my two cents on this and how insainly stupid this useless attack by Jennifer Daniel Collins an Attorney at Faegre & Benson (they represent the National Pork Council) on the lactivist blogger is. Yes, I am posting because Shoemoney asked, but even more so for all the nursing mothers out there. I have three kids, and every single one of them was breastfed by my wife, and I know the challenges that she faced in doing what is BEST for my kids. Being attacked because you are promoting what is best for an infant is just flat out wrong. More should join on this quest to get the word out about this ridiculas law suit. (more…)
