Awesome Features of Del.icio.us

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

I am a fool for a tag cloud.  I love Del.icio.us and the amazing social bookmarking site it is.  I was messing around with my account today and found some stuff I knew was in there, but never really did anything with.  I finally did something with it tonight and I am very please.  If you click on the settings link in your Del.icio.us account then scroll to the bottom of the page and find the “blogging” tools then you will see an area where you can create a tag cloud to display on your site.  You can also just list recent links of stories tagged as well.  Like I said I am a sucker for a great tag cloud so thats what I opted for.  You can see my tags by visiting here - Matt Siltala on Del.icio.us

Meta Tag Hack for WordPress Bloggers

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

If you host your own WordPress blog then you will love this hack created by my good friend Brandon Buttars -called Meta Tagz. This plug in will allow you to create custom meta info for each page/post of your blog. It also does a ton of other cool things, but the meta tags (part of it) is what excites me the most because its such an easy plug in to use, and its probably one of the best things you can do to help get better blog rankings for individual blog posts and pages. Enjoy!

29 Fortune 100’s are letting Google Tarnish their Reputation

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

29 fortune 100’s have negative results in Google when searching for their brand. Some are as small as lawsuit details but some are specific awareness campaigns claiming such things as murder, destroying the earth and poisoning pregnant women. Regardless of the claim or the evidence behind it I was surprised that companies with such power were not doing something more in terms of Reputation Management in order to lessen the blow of these sites ranking for their Brand Name. Some of the sites are very well marketed and goes to show there is always room for the Little Guy in the online world.

The List:

1.) Walmart - Site called “Walmart Watch” which says,”Wal-Mart Watch is a nationwide campaign to reveal the harmful impact of walmart on American families and demand reform of their business practices.

2.) Exxon Mobil - Two Sites one called “Exxpose Exxon” and “Exxon Secrets” Both are about how they hurt the environment and fund Global Warming Nay Saying Scientists.

3.) Chevron Texaco - Two Sites on called “Source Watch” is isn’t exactly anti Cheveron and Texaco but it talks about how they help fund Politicians in their Favor. “Clean Up Ecuador Campaign” illustrates arguments that they are destroying rain forest’s in Ecuador. The search Texaco by itself brings up “Texaco Rain Forest” about the same problems with Oil and Rain Forest’s. (more…)

CJ.com not worried anymore

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

The way I see it - If ShoeMoney posts that affiliate networks have nothing to worry about with the launching of Googles PPA/CPA program then CJ is ok.  I was laughing when everybody was worried about all these programs losing their steam, so I loved it when Jeremy posted 6 reasons why these networks won’t die because of Google.

best-cars-directory.info Must Have Hired A Spammer

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

I don’t know about anyone else out there, but I have been hit with over 1600 comment spams today, and most of them are from different IP’s. They are all similar to this:

Name: car future nissan | URI: best-cars-directory.info/nissan-cars/car-future-nissan.html | IP: 80.200.77.145 | Date:

car future nissan…

Approved articles about car future nissan….

Any one else been spammed by these guys today so aggressively as I have? I guess I have to get my ban on again! Good thing for Akismet Spam! I really don’t want to give these guys any publicity, but this is by far the most aggressive attack of comment spam I have ever received on this blog!

Dish Network - The Biggest Group of Cell Phone Spammers

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

I did not want to have to write this post because I thought Dish Network would gain some common sense if I gave them some time. They have not, and I am more annoyed at these spammers then any email lottery notification spammer. I will NEVER use Dish Network again, and I hope some reading this post will join me.

Part of what I do for a living is help people with Reputation Management problems, but in cases like this, the company deserves to get the “bad press” word out. (more…)

Google to Launch Affiliate Network?

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Over the past week in my circle of seo friends I have heard rumors of Google Launching a new affiliate network. I did some searching and found one post on the Affiliate Beta.

In the post it links two blog posts by Google on their Adsense Blog and Adwords Blog in the post’s they aren’t saying it is an affiliate network but they are saying things like, “Pay-per action” and “referrals beta” so it seems like an affiliate network.

Anyone been invited? Or have anymore info?

Become an Expert at Something, Then Duplicate It

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Most of the people I talk to on a daily basis are not seasoned business owners.  Most of them are brand new to the internet, search and business in general.  Often times it can be frustrating when trying to help some of these people see the vision of what this business can grow into.  I have some simple advice that should help those on the fence with this. Basic Functions of a Website Builder

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Its been a while since I posted, but the last 96 hours I was on the road for 36 of them.  So thats my excuse.  I was going over something with a client this morning, and it was something that struck my so silly that I wanted to post about it.

We were talking about the basic functions of a website builder/host/template etc., and the question was actually posed by the owners of this website builder (to my client) if my client wanted it to be “search engine friendly”.  Are you kidding me?  Is there even a need to ask that anymore?  There was so many other functions that were not included it was ridiculas! (more…)
