Viral Marketing Idea Friday - Parenting Classes

Friday, May 9th, 2008

I had an interesting conversation with a lady who owns a company that teaches parenting classes that I want to share for today’s viral marketing idea post. Todays post also stems from something I witnessed the other day at my daughters baseball practice. I am not in the business of judging other peoples parenting skills, especially when I feel I have a lot to learn still as a parent of only 7 years, almost 8 but I have seen some parents act pretty bad, and treat their kids even worse in front of everyone to the point of feeling uncomfortable.

What is one to do in a situation like this? For the sake of viral marketing - think like a viral marketer!

I am not trying to make light of the situation here (bad parenting) by making this a viral post, but I am trying to have some fun with it, and maybe it can help get more word out (to those who need it) of help available.

Some of the first things I think of are the images that I know everyone (through all the email forwards) have seen by now of the kids who painted their entire living room with white paint:

kids with white paint

It seems like I remember seeing this picture everywhere and on every site imaginable, and this was before all the main stream social media networks were even out there (like they are today). I could be wrong about the time of this picture, but it got me thinking about the funny viral posts that someone in the parenting industry could do.

Getting back to my conversation with this parenting class teacher, she was telling me about some of the funniest videos they have ever caught of either kids throwing temper tantrums, or the parents throwing their own (which she said were much funnier) when they just reach the breaking point with their kids. I am sure you have all watched the hit show Supernanny, and if you have you have seen some pretty amazing footage of kids and parents behaving badly. Doing a quick Google search for videos reveals even the more raw real (sometimes even scary) footage of parents and kids behaving badly. I could use this a goldmine of opportunity for viral blog posts if I were trying to drive more traffic to my parenting website (and get more leads).

This is the exact conversation, and advice I gave this parenting coach to drum up more interest in her blog. If she were to find videos of kids caught on tape making complete asses out of themselves in Wal Mart, at a soccer game, eating out etc and gave it the title “The Most Intense Temper Tantrums Ever Caught On Film” or “5 Kids You Don’t Want To Take Out To Eat” and show the videos of kids going absolute nuts inside the restaurant.

You can then take the time to let these people know about your wonderful parenting classes, and tie it in perfectly! This may seem like a no brain-er, or DUH (to us viral marketers), but you would be surprised how only after this conversation, and giving this lady some ideas that the light finally went on, and she was giving some brilliant ideas herself. Once you train yourself to think like a marketer then it becomes much easier to pull these out of your back pocket. Thats where this blog comes in, and our viral marketing idea Fridays - we know that you are busy running your business, and not focusing on being a marketer so we want to help!

Please feel free to ask any viral questions, or leave comments about your business and what you would like to see viral ideas for. You can do it on this post, or any of the viral marketing idea Friday posts.

Viral Marketing Idea Friday - 5 Tips To Help You Go Viral

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Todays viral post is going to be a little different, but I wanted to share a few tips for going viral that have been on my mind this week, so here goes:

#1 Think about the audience - You need to research out the group of people you will be targeting, and the social communities they use. There are a ton of targeted social networks out there, but trying to get on them all with one post is just plain silly. Angling Masters is one of the biggest social networks for fishermen, but probably not the best place for a viral piece about fashion disasters. If you know you can create a viral piece about going Green, or something to help the environment then finding the social communities for eco-friendly stories is what you want to be looking for. Go and check out the stories that are popular, or that have made it popular in the past. Find the ones that have received the most votes, and research out the titles, content and exactly just what made them go “viral”.

#2 Create Amazing Content For Actual Readers - Don’t just think $Dollar$ signs when creating a content piece you want to go viral. The truth of the matter is very little stories that go viral actually make people any money. Especially the ones that go viral on some of the bigger communities that are out there like Digg, Reddit or Delicious. How you benefit is from exposure, and the links that will be built up over the months and years. I have stories that made the front page of Digg years ago that still get new links every week, and I still see traffic from every single day. Thats right - EVERY SINGLE DAY! Why? The content is worth reading, and content worth reading is worth sharing and sharing again.

#3 Think Like A Viral Marketer - Now when you get good at this, it will scare you. You will be doing normal everyday stuff and think to yourself - “That could make a good viral post”! Sometimes its even sickening … The other day I was driving and right in front of me (I am talking RIGHT in front of me) a HUGE car crash … someone blew threw a stop sign and t-boned a truck toeing a trailer, and that truck started spinning right towards me. The first thing I thought of? Get my iPhone out and take a picture, and my second thought was that I wish I had a camera to capture that because one of my clients is in the Trucking safety industry, and there has got to be something I could use that video on!!! Then the ideas started flowing - “10 of the Craziest crashes ever caught on video” or “10 Of The Craziest Crashes Ever Filmed By An Amatuer”. You get the point - my mind is sick and wrong. Its funny because even the simple everyday interactions with my kids - I have a never ending supply of viral posts because of all the funny stuff they do for anyone in a kids industry! Now would be a good place to remind you of a post I did a while ago on “how to think like a social media marketer“.

#4 Networking - It is one thing to just become a “member” of a social network and vote on stuff, but if you can truly understand the point of the community, become a good active member of it, and contribute to it, you will see amazing results. Make friends, vote on their stuff, share it with others of every single network you are a part of, and in turn they will do the same for you. Just today I saw a post of mine show up on another targeted social network for women from a person I made friends with about a month ago. It all does come back, so don’t be greedy with your time or participation.

#5 Have Fun - If you can’t have fun, or make fun of yourself and what you are doing then you have no place in the social networks. People who thrive in the social communities and have stuff go viral all the time are the ones that love what they do. They live, eat, breathe, and drink social media. I am not saying you have to become that crazy, but if you love what you are doing, then you will become good at it. If you are new to social networking my biggest piece of advice would be to have fun, make friends, contribute to the community and enjoy the networks that you are a part of! You will see it pay off in the end!

Viral Marketing Idea Friday - Dry Cleaner

Friday, April 25th, 2008

I got asked the other day by a dry cleaner owner what could be done to drive more local traffic to his site. With a big smile on my face I told him to read this post today! I did start to have a conversation with him about the different things that I could do, but what really impressed him was how I got him thinking about the viral things that could be done with his website.

He did have a blog on it (because he heard websites would do good on Google if they had blogs on them) and the last time any post had been done was over 6 months ago. There was a total of three blog posts over a couple year span. This is a good place to remind people that having a blog for the sake of having a blog because you “heard” it would be good for your website is completely idiotic, unless you take the time to actually post, and provide something worthwhile…and often. Anyway, (for you non coders thats my end rant) thats another post another day!

How I got this dry cleaning business owner thinking was by asking him a series of questions. “What are some of the craziest things you have found in peoples pockets when they leave their clothes with you?” He started to respond with some pretty crazy things, one for example was a certain thing that women (or men I guess if your into that) can purchase that vibrate. He also started to talk about how he found a wad of cash before (over 1000 bucks - how on earth people can be this stupid I have no idea?) and the one that amazed me the most that someone would actually leave was - WEED! Someone had actually left marijuana in a business coat pocket.

I think this can give you some pretty good ideas how you could take this post viral. I just told this man to start taking pictures of funny things he found inside pockets, and start to document everything. Someday it could turn into a pretty good post that I would title - “10 Things You Would Never Believe A Dry Cleaner Found In Pockets” or “What 10 Stupid People Forgot To Take Out Of Pockets Before Dry Cleaning” or “This Dude Got Busted Because He Was To Stupid To Take The Pot Out Of His Pocket Before Dry Cleaning” … and so on, but I think you get the point of where you could take this.

There you have it! Even a dry cleaning business can come up with some creative enough to go viral. I had a blast talking with this business owner and hearing some of the stories so I know they would do well online in a social environment. It is something that could give his little website buzz enough to help with local rankings, and bring him more business.

Example: Awesome Viral Piece for Boring Industry (Appliances)

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

I have talked about about how you can do viral marketing for any industry. Mat has also posted every Friday on Viral Marketing ideas and he always tries to share an example in a “boring” industry. This last week I came across a viral piece that blew me away and it was for one of the most boring industries on the planet, appliances. I found it on Digg and SU one of my buddies had submitted it. It is the perfect example of how a very boring industry and website can garner links and traffic. It is brand new so as far as links goes it isn’t showing too many, but i am sure in a couple weeks it will. It didn’t go popular on Digg but got over 300 votes. That is another post in it’s self because it had over 22 comments as well. BTW is it just me or has the quality of stories and experience gone done on Digg dramatically. I use to use Digg everyday and I loved the content that made the front page as well as the networking, it seems exactly the opposite now, due to all the changes it has gone through this year, but I digress.

The site sells Appliance Parts and the piece it came up with is “Appliances Right out of the Jetsons.” It is brilliant! The content is awesome the layout of the page is great. They did their research and found appliances that I thought were fake when I first read through them. A microwave that scans the barcode on a product and automatically sets the timer accordingly, a dryer that texts you when your load is done and a bunch of other really cool stuff. My wife and I just moved and I made sure she didn’t see this and I am sure I would be a few thousand dollars poorer.

So to all you lawyers, ink toner sites, fruit and gift basket companies that think you are too boring to create viral content use this as an example next time. I would love to hear from the site as to how much traffic SU brought, it got a lot of reviews and I will watch the links as well to see if it really paid off.

Also another really good example from a relatively boring industry (pearls) I came across last year check this out, “The 14lb Pearl and other World Record Gems

As I come across these I will try and post more about them. Also I have an actual case study from a piece we did for a client last September that got over 200k uniques in 2 days and 3,020 back links. They company is looking to be acquired and after that they won’t care if I share it.

Viral Marketing Idea Friday - What Can A Preschool Do To Go Viral?

Friday, April 11th, 2008

I had some interesting conversations this week (with people who don’t have a clue what viral marketing is), as well as some thought provoking ideas go through my mind this week that I wanted share for todays viral marketing idea.

After having a post about my son telling me to Google It go popular on Digg several months back, it got me thinking about what a preschool could do to go viral, or even if they would need to because the competition is so little - But thats just it, easy for someone like me, but not for someone whose main focus and goal is to run a preschool business, and who has no skill (or know-how) when it comes to Internet marketing. Thats when this does make sense, and I am going to share why it can help grow their business more then they could ever have imagined possible.

I was at the Zoo a few days back with my son and his entire preschool class and teacher, as well as all the other kids parents. During lunch I overheard a conversation (I was sitting right next to them so, no I wasn’t spying - ok, well I was but it was because they were talking about marketing) about ways the preschool teacher could advertise and market her business. I remember when I first got my son in this preschool she was going to have another teacher join her, and they were going to have two sets of classes etc., but then could not because they did not have enough people sign up for the school. This is basically what the conversation was about, and what the teacher could do to generate more to her business.

viral marketing idea for preschool

First, the teacher (at this point) does not even have a website, but thats not a deal breaker because with the lovely local search results that Google and other various engines are providing us, and different social media (viral) websites that are local based (Yelp) and focused - she still has a chance. I wanted to yell to her to go list with Google Local, and that alone would probably help her fill up her classrooms more then she can, but this post is about viral marketing so I will resist from talking anymore about local search.

Back to the point - the example above I gave about my post going popular on Digg talking about something funny my son said. I never intended on that post to go popular, I did not write it (no matter what all my Internet marketing peers think) to go popular, I just wanted to share something I thought was cute to my readers, and the people in (or out) of my industry. Well, my son said something pretty dang funny again the other day, and it got me thinking about how a preschool business could turn the funny things kids say to a viral campaign that could really set them apart from anyone they are going up against! One campaign gone viral in this industry and they are on top for ages, not to mention the credibility when people to “Google” your business and see multiple results and people talking about you.

I was outside with a neighbor and others (which makes this more embarrassing) and the kids were playing with this balloon toy that would launch these hot dog looking balloons (for what seemed like a mile) into the air. They were having so much fun, then my son comes and has this long balloon, and holds it in front of everybody and puts it down by his mid section and proudly proclaims “Look, I have a big dong”! After, all the laughing from the neighbors (or trying not to because I was trying to teach him this was not a nice thing to say) and the neighbors trying to hold it in, I just could not stop thinking how this could be used for viral marketing.

Rather then getting another front page of Digg for talking about something that my son said again, i wanted to share this as an example of what a preschool business could do to go viral. I am not saying they use this exact example. I probably would not suggest it, but kids say so many cute things (even take the things your own ones say) you could probably come up with a pretty good list that would make people laugh. If you are thinking this has been done to much, or there have been shows about it, or there is just nothing funny anymore about it, then I need to remind you again about the post I wrote going popular for something my kid said. It can still happen if its good enough.

Here are the “link bait” examples of titles that could work really well - “10 Things Your Preschool Teacher Hears About You When Are Away From Your Kid” or “10 Things You Wish Your Kid Never Told Their Preschool Teacher” or (even better) if you have video “10 Of The Funniest Videos Capturing What Kids Say About Mom And Dad”. I think these are enough title ideas to get you thinking of where I could go, and am going with this viral idea for a preschool business.

I think that some preschools could really benefit from this information because, as there are some really small ones out there that are run out of homes, there are some huge national chains that (from what I have seen) really need to do a better job with their Internet marketing, and search engine optimization. They are missing out on the better portion of the local traffic by not taking advantage of the simple things that are right in front of them for the taking. I can talk personally about this too, because about 5 years ago I did some marketing for a local (at the time - a very small run out of basement one) preschool in Utah, who now has a huge building with several different classrooms, a gym type dance studio, fully functional office (and staff), and is full to the breaking point every semester! It has been 5 years, and I have not touched the marketing, and they still dominate for everything they wanted to!

Viral Marketing Idea Friday - Start Some Controversy!

Friday, April 4th, 2008

I just could not help myself with todays “viral marketing idea” post. This is almost so unbelievable (but not) that its crazy. You will learn why (in just a minute) how there is something wrong with me, and even in the situation I was in, I could not stop thinking about how I was going to turn (what I was experiencing) into a blog post related to viral marketing.

Let me give you a little background - It was my brothers birthday yesterday and he called me up and said a few of his friends were taking him to lunch and asked if I wanted to go. Of course I did, so I told him to email me directions and it was on! This is where the fun begins to this post.

To my surprise I walk into this “fine eating establishment” called “The Heart Attack Grill” that has just about the most unhealthy food you can find on the planet - no kidding - one of the burgers is estimated to be 8000 calories. They even warn you about it. The concept is pretty clever, and you soon realize how come they are doing so well. They call it “The Heart Attack Grill” because of the menu, and give it a catchy one liner “A taste worth dying for”! The cooks are Doctors and dressed in Doctors outfits and scrubs, and the waitresses are dressed in “Naughty Nurse” outfits. This place is like Hooters on steroids. Here is a picture I took to share my experience with all, and believe me this one is probably the most tame outfits:

heart attack grill nurse

To me, its not even about the whole concept of “sex sells”, because when I was reading all the press, and media these guys are getting, and how the owner gets 80 emails an hour from people wanting him to franchise (all over the country) it really makes me think of what made this business go viral? CONTROVERSY!!! It all comes down to the controversy that this guy has created with two key elements, 1. The girls in skimpy nurse outfits (even though the owner calls it “PG rated sex”) and 2. The unhealthy food - (this food is way worse for you then anything on the McDonalds menu and they had a documentary done on them!) the owner has sparked up so much controversy that there is no way for him to not succeed. Look here - I am even talking about it! I just found out about this place yesterday!

I thought this was appropriate for viral marketing idea Friday, because it’s a good reminder of what can do well for business whether you are an off line business owner (selling food), or just trying to gain momentum for that new business blog you just launched. If you are not into selling sex (like myself) there are plenty of ways that you can create controversy and go viral without it, I am simply just using this as an example to get you thinking about the whole concept of viral marketing and controversy!

Because I usually give examples of link bait with my posts, the only one I could think of for this is - “10 Bathrooms I Would Never Go In” and of course list this place as one of them for … um …. obvious reasons! Yea, I’ll just end it there!

Viral Marketing Idea Friday - Local Landscaping Company

Friday, March 28th, 2008

I have been thinking about this one for a while now because its time to finally get my backyard landscaped. The more and more I have looked online for “local” landscaping companies, there was not one company in my local area (through my searches) who is doing anything viral online.

If you own a local landscaping company, you could be taking advantage of a huge opportunity, and could grow your business by leaps and bounds with even just one viral campaign that goes popular on (any of) the major social networks. It will help their websites current SEO situation (which is pretty much nothing at least for all the ones I found) in the form of links and trust being pushed from many different types of sites. A boosting in the search engine rankings could mean more visitors and traffic and of course more phone calls, and even rankings for some keywords they never thought possible.

So the trick here with todays viral marketing idea is to find something inside the landscaping industry that is interesting enough, or funny enough for a social community audience. I start to think of the thinks I like when it comes to landscaping and what “gets my attention” even if I am not a part of the industry. I love looking at what other people have done with their yards, and even more, I like looking at what people with unlimited budgets can do with a landscaping project. This gives me my first idea - “What The Yards Of Billionaires Look Like” or “The Yards Of The 10 Wealthiest People In The World”, and finally “If You Were A Billionaire Your Backyard Would Look Like This Too!”

The other ideas I would have is giving landscaping tips that could appeal to a broader audience, because most people in this world are on budgets. I think this could interest a decent amount of people - “14 Amazing Landscaping Tips For Those On A Budget” or “10 Ways To Stay On Budget With Your Landscaping Projects”. You can even go into the archives of some of the HGTV shows, or TLC shows where they do landscaping makeovers, and provide videos of - “The 9 Coolest Backyard Makeovers Done On TV” I am not saying that all of these would make the first page of Digg, but could do really well on other social networks. I do think if one of these ideas were massaged out enough that it could even make a front page of Digg, like this one (I just thought of) “10 Landscaping Tips To Make Your Backyard More Environmentally Friendly” I gotta throw one more in there because I think this one would be the funniest - Do some research and find pictures of the craziest backyards that are so unsafe, and that you would never let your kids play in. Then write about “10 Backyards You Would Never Let Your Kids Play At” … then show pictures crazy unsafe backyards, or a spoof and show a picture of Michael Jacksons Neverland Ranch (then show some crazy ones). Here is a picture of a backyard that I feel would be on the list of “unsafe backyards”, and ones that could use a “landscaping makeover”

unsafe backyard

I think you can see there are so many ways you can go with this, and how it can help your business make a name for itself. I can’t help but think like a marketer all the time, and I really enjoy sharing these tips, and what comes out of my mind. I hope its helping you guys too, and that you are learning how to think more like a social media marketer as well! Chris and I always welcome your questions and comments, and we love when you ask us for ideas about your industry. I have received several amazing questions lately that I will be getting to over the next several weeks.

Viral Marketing Idea Friday - Lasik Surgery Center

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Just wanted to share a quick idea for this weeks “VMIF”, and apologize for not being able to post last week. Last Wednesday I woke up with severe pains that ended up putting me in the hospital for a few days because of a need to get my appendix removed. I am still not 100% yet, but am starting to feel better.

As I was in the hospital I had a chance to talk to a lot of Doctors and Nurses (of course) all of which were interested in what I did for a living when they found out I had no need for Doctors notes (to take back to a job), or that I didn’t need to make arrangements for my stay with my boss. I am the boss, and I said it was ok!

To make a long story short I had the opportunity to share a viral marketing idea with a local Gilbert Arizona lasik surgery center Doctor when he asked me how on earth I could make lasik surgery “go viral”.

I told him that not all posts that make it to the front page of Digg, or make it to the “buzz” section of Stumble Upon have to be funny. There are lots that do well that are informative and that provide useful information and thats the approach I would take with lasik surgery.

We talked about the things his clients ask the most, and what they are most nervous about when it comes to the surgery. I got some pretty good ideas how I feel a site like this could do good with social media. First I would take the safety approach and come up with a list (after good research) of “10 Lasik Surgeries Gone Horribly Wrong - Read The Real Life Horror Stories Here” then provide examples to why they went wrong, and give references to either the equipment of the experience of the Doctor doing the procedure. You can then take this opportunity to talk about the equipment your business uses, and the experiences your customers have had with you (in the form of testimonials). You may need a graphics person to help you with this next idea, but I was thinking to share the actual vision of someone with different levels of vision problems who are going in for the surgery, and show us before and after what are typical results. You can give it the simple title - “See What These 10 Individuals Saw Before And After Their Lasik Surgery” This would be interesting for those who didn’t need the surgery, but be very beneficial (and informative) to those who were investigating lasik surgery.

I don’t really see how you can make this industry “funny” as its not something to be made fun of (and could scare clients away), but I hope you get some ideas where I would take this kind of an industry - and that is the informative route! As I was writing this I thought of another idea that could probably go well - “10 Reasons Why You Should Research Out Your Lasik Surgeon” and then share real life stories that have been shared with you, while you are cleaning up the mess. Again, the informative route is the way to go with this campaign.

Please keep sending in your VMIF requests in the form of email, or comments on any of the VMIF posts and Chris and I will be more then happy to help. We love this topic so much (as you can see) I can’t even get away from it when I am at the hospital getting my appendix out!!

Viral Marketing Idea Friday - Playground Equipment - Swingsets

Friday, February 29th, 2008

I got asked this one from a local playground equipment company here in Arizona (that specializes in vinyl playgrounds) way before we even started viral marketing idea Friday here at 97th Floor. I shared my thoughts with the owner, and gave some pretty good ideas (I don’t know if they ever ran with), but I felt it was worth sharing because these guys were local, and I feel there is plenty of love to go around in this industry!

The exact question was - “How do I create a viral campaign for local playground company?”

First of all I was impressed that a local playground company was even doing enough research to figure out they needed to create something to go viral with! I love these style of playground systems (see picture) for the kids, and the one I have is amazing, but how do you attract someone to a viral content post (or page) about a kids playground if they have no kids, are in college, or anything related? As I have said before, you have to make it funny, or super informative (which in turn makes it more sharable no matter who the person reading it is). Here is a picture of the playground I own from this local company:

playground

Going viral - I don’t know how many of you have seen the TV show called “Mythbusters“, but its on Discovery Channel, and they did a show a while ago that was dedicated to seeing if you can really swing someone in a swing for a full 360 that wraps around. It was pretty funny to see all of the different attempts and how many ways they failed - and what they had to do to succeed. It got me thinking to see if there were other people, and by “other people” I mean users of You Tube, who were crazy enough to take videos of themselves doing this very thing. To say the least I found some pretty funny stuff.

This is just one example of some pretty cool footage I found. Some were silly, some stupid, a few were amazing, but the point here is all of them made me laugh, and I feel could make anyone laugh. In my opinion, anyway you use these videos they could help you go viral with the right title and content (and of course - a dash of link bait).

I would suggest coming up with a title that can grab anyone no matter who you are, like - “10 of the Craziest Things You Have Ever Seen Done On A Swingset” or “10 Things That Should Never Be Done On A Swingset” or (my favorite title) “Can You Really Do A 360 In A Swing Set?” [Video Included]. These are more of the funny ways to take this viral campaign, but you could also take a serious approach (if this is your real business) and provide something like - “12 Safety Tips Every Parent Should Read Before Buying A Swingset” or “10 Safety Videos Parents Need To Watch Before Purchasing A Playground” and then provide a series of tips, or videos outlining safe playgrounds for dangerous ones. You can always make a note on your site somewhere that your playgrounds always comply to all safety regulations, and anything else that could help you look like you are providing a service to the community with this info.

These are just a few ways that I feel would go viral, and do great with a playground/swing set company. I think this will give you some ideas to run with if you are looking inside this industry for help. As always feel free to submit any questions you have related to VMIF in the form of comments, or by emailing Chris or myself!

Viral Marketing Idea Friday - Pottery Business

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

I have to admit - todays post about viral marketing for a Pottery business is the first one I got asked in a long time that has actually made me think. I enjoyed it, and had fun and hope to share some good ideas with Josh Garner (the one who asked the question) last week.

The thing with a boring industry like Pottery (at least for those of us not into it) is you have to figure out a way to make it fun, and fun for everyone. Even if you try to bring in the edge like “10 Beautiful Pieces of Potter” or “10 Pieces Of Pottery You Won’t Believe” I still don’t think that is going to be enough to engage the likes of those who make posts go popular on Digg. Cool looking pottery to a pottery buff may be enough, but you have to understand the type of people you are bringing this industry to - are most likely not “pottery buffs”!

So here is the problem - Finding something that relates to the pottery industry that would make people (in the social type communities) laugh and want to share with everyone they know (in their communities), even if they don’t even know what a pottery kiln is.

Here are some of my ideas, and I think these ones are probably the best out of everything I though of, so thats all I will share. First of all look at this video:

It is always fun, and funny to watch people doing stupid things right? Now I am not saying this girl spinning on a pottery spinner is funny enough to make it, but I hope it gets you thinking where I am going with this. I would spend as much time as it took to find 10 videos of people doing stupid, or funny things with potter spinners. I would then title the post “10 Things You Should Not Do With A Pottery Spinner” or “10 Of The Stupidest Ways People Have Ever Used A Pottery Spinner” I could even take this angle (if I did not find enough videos, but found at least one that was funny enough) “In This Corner - One Stupid Person, In The Other Corner - A Pottery Spinner - Find Out Who Wins”

Any of those (link baited) titles would make me want to investigate more and check out the post and watch the video. It just sounds to funny to pass up, and that is what you are trying to accomplish. Of course, you have to have some really good link bait with an industry like “pottery”, but I think I did a decent job of sharing some examples of what I feel would do very well!

I had some other ideas that were pretty funny with pottery and they involved smashing pottery, dropping pottery, pottery accidents, strange uses of pottery (may not be safe for work - LOL) etc. All of which I found some pretty funny footage online thanks to You Tube and Google Video. I know if this were an industry I was marketing for, and if I took the time to research it out, I could come up with some pretty funny videos and a post that I am sure would do well for the site.

Again, I hope this gives Josh some ideas to run with, and as always please feel free to ask your industry question in the comments on any VMIF post, or by sending Chris or myself and email!
