I hate Spam!
I hate Spam no matter what form it comes in. I recently read a blog posted by Jeremy Zawodny of Yahoo! in which he received a letter from a search engine marketing company called XY7.com and wanted to talk about it. Today, the same letter came in the mail for me. Why the outrage? I attended the SES New York 2006 in Late February and March this year. I attended several booths and talked with a variety of people NONE of which were XY7.com, yet read part of the letter that was sent to me:
Dear Mat:
“I hope you enjoyed the recent Search Engine Strategies Convention in New York as much as we at XY7.com did. I want to thank you for stopping by our booth. I hope that your investment of time was productive for you. Here’s an opportunity to make that investment even more valuable to you and your company.”
I have “bolded” the part that drives me nuts! I never stopped at thier booth, or talked with ANYONE in thier company. Now I realize just by going to the conference I will get people marketing to me, but I assumed it would be the people I talked with, and dropped of business cards with! The ironic thing is that I have not been contacted by any of the companies I wanted to be contacted by. Whats wrong here?? Spam is spam no matter what form it is. If its in an email or a via snail mail.
Getting SPAM like this (I call it as I see it) only makes me want to do one thing. Blog about the crap that is out there and help as many people avoid spamming companies like this as possible!
