Nothing better then Google Analytics (for the price)

As an SEO I am always asked if I know of a good “tracking software” for websites.  Most of my clients are smaller based home business owners and I know they can’t afford (nor need) a software like Omniture. Although when it comes to web analytics I don’t think there is anything out there that compares to Ominture.  But lets face it what small business owner can afford $10,000 or more just for tracking software?  Most small business owners are concered about getting any traffic to thier website let alone tracking it!  As you implement an internet business plan and your website grows-you will need to know some criticle things about your traffic:

  • What pages are being viewed the most?
  • Inside your pages what is being clicked on?
  • What keywords are they using to find you?
  • What days are you getting the most traffic?
  • What times are you getting the most traffic?
  • Which domains are people finding you from the most?
  • Which search engines are giving you the most traffic?
  • What is the paid traffic doing vs your natural traffic?
  • How long are they staying on certain pages?
  • What pages do they enter the most on?
  • What pages do they exit the most from?

These, believe it or not are only a “few” things that a good analytics program will show you.  So getting back to my answer:  I know several “good ones” but for the money there is none as good as Google Analytics.  Why?  Google Analytics is a completly free web analysis (tracking) service offered by Google.  So like I said for the money you can’t beat this system.   There are other “web statistic” programs out there that charge alot of money,  but don’t even provide the kind of useful information Google Analytics does.

There is a downside to getting Google Analytics,  you have to wait … and wait …. and wait to get approved. (did I make my point?)  A product that is so useful, informative and free comes in high demand.  Google has been overwelmed in keeping up with the demand of requests and have put people on a “waiting list” depending on when they signed up.  If you are patient it will pay off for you in the long run.  You will not find a better program (for the money-remember its free) that will provide the kind of information that will help you run a better internet business.
