Vertical Creep and Froogle

Any kind of a shopping type site can help you with vertical creep results on Google, but can listing your products inside Froogle help you achieve better rankings?  I think so,  if you go to Google and do a regular search for something like “mattress topper” and you will get a result of over 2 million (as of today).  When you do the same search on Froogle the number drops to 2,389.  Without being a rocket scientist you can figure out what would be easier to be found for; going up against 2 million sites, or 2,389 people.

Besides the traffic being more targeted on Froogle, you have a good chance of getting a ranking in the vertical creep results (on Google) by optimizing the product information you give Froogle.

Just do a search on the regular Google for products and if you don’t see any vertical creep results, its a pretty good bet with a little work you could be one of the featured advertisers found.  I am not just saying use Froogle for vertical creep results (use all the shopping.com type sites), but I am saying besides the benefit of being found easier on the regular search results in Google you have the ability to be found easier for much more targeted traffic by using Froogle.

For example:

I had the conversation yesterday with a client of mine about this.   I am not going to use Google to search for a hiking shoe,  because the search results will be in the millions 99% of which are not even selling shoes.  So, I will probably end up using Froogle, or a shopping type site instead.  However, where Google really does well at, is if I am looking for different types of free blogging software, CMS systems, or if it something very, very targeted.  There is a big differnce in that, I think anyway!

Bottom line here, take advantage of the shopping type sites cause they can help get you more sales, better (more targeted) traffic, and possibly give you vertical creep results.
