Viral Marketing Idea Friday - Fixed Assets Software Company

I think I have outdone myself this week with finding the absolute most boring industry on the planet. If you are a part of the fixed assets software community then please accept my (not so sincere) apology for poking fun at your boring industry!

After having a pretty good talk with a friend of mine who happens to own a fixed assets and depreciation software company I realized that this industry does have some pretty interesting things that could in fact go viral.

One of the more interesting parts of the conversation led to the things that people try to claim as fixed assets, or more surprisingly what could be claimed as a fixed asset for tax purposes. I really was surprised on both ends of the spectrum. So what could a catchy viral title be for this industry? I would start with these: “10 Things You Never Knew Were Fixed Assets” and “The 10 Stupidest Things People Have Ever Tried To Pass Off As Fixed Assets” and you can even spice up the post with really cool videos you find, and pictures rather then just listing out the items. Its fun for us to look at the silly things people try to claim.

I was told a story of a client trying to claim his “hooker” during his businesses trips as a fixed asset because he always went back to her every business trip. He joked with this client that even though he could take her for a ride, it is not the same thing as a tractor (which would be considered a fixed asset). The client did not appreciate the joke! The funnies thing of all is that he had receipts (or documented invoices) and all to prove it too!

There you go - I gave you way to much info that you can have fun with today for this industry. Remember, even the most boring industries can go viral and I think I proved that one today! Please continue to email us, and leave comments with your viral marketing idea Friday requests.

Nate,

Wow, using hookers as a fixed asset is definitely getting creative. Wonder if he factored in “depreciation expenses” on that ASSet :)

Because of your ideas, I’ve been trying different things to go viral with. Here are a few that have really increased traffic to my sites:

Thanks for your creative advice about boring industries.

That’s hilarious. Imagine if all of our “so called” politicians who are always away on business trips could write off “hookers” as fixed assets.

Great read, thanx

Can you write a viral marketing piece on small town restaurants?

I love your ideas, keep ‘em coming.

Nate Nead,

Writing off hookers as a fixed asset seems a bit ridiculous, but I know stranger things have happened. And with what’s going on today, they will continue to do so.

seo pixy,

That was a funny post:) I never knew there are people with such absurd claims for fixed assets!

Jessica,

Absolutely hilarious! I could only imagine his face when he was told he couldn’t claim his date-for-pay. I have to correct you on the “most boring industry on the planet” reference. There is an even more boring industry then fixed assets software, it’s called the insurance industry. Imagine this: a company that provides an internet based software to insurance professionals for commercial prospecting and marketing, as well as appointment setting services. Perhaps “Prospects Say The Darnedest Things, 10 Funniest Responses To A Cold Call”…. I may have to keep that one in mind.
