Hey, there are alot of people out there banking on these ideas, but a true Search Engine Marketer (one who you may be trying to employ) will tell you to run the other way-fast.  Ironically enough I got this question from another person in the office while going to the bathroom.  (I hate that BTW) Here’s why: here’s the question again:

Why do SEM’s hate MLM’s and network marketing? 

Anyone who truly understands search engine marketing, and the “in’s and out’s” of a search engine knows that your first issue is duplicate content.  Every other person out there doing what you are doing has a canned site that exactly like yours, besides for a affiliate ID number at the end of the URL.  You are also hit with so many rules and regulations as to what can and can’t be done with your site its not funny.  Most of these sites are one maybe two page sales copys.  You need more content then that to really dominate on the search engines.  OH not to mention, what sets you a part?  NOTHING! 

If you have a site like this and you want to implement some search engine optimization here are a few things I would be asking:

• Can I change the sales copy content?
• Can I customize the title tag?
• Can I customize the meta tags?
• Can I customize any tags on the site?
• Can I use HTML?
• Are the pages Search Engine Friendly?
• Can I submit the URL they give me to Search Engines or Directories?

I am not a hater of these network marketing type sites…don’t get me wrong (there are plenty of people out there making money with em).  All I am saying is that if you are planning on using SEO to market your website to take a closer look at what can and can’t be done.  In the end the more control you have over site the better off you will be in regards to the search engines.
