Yahoo Mad At Me For Defending Yahoo Answers, WTF

I was not going to post rant about this, but after reading Matt Mcgee’s latest post about Google giving love to Yahoo Answers (which is worth looking at) I had to say something. It is just to good not to, well I think anyway.

I have been using my Yahoo Answers account more recently, after a period of inactivity I wanted to give it a shot again and build up my account. I was doing it for pure fun (maybe a little testing) and had no marketing intentions with it (honestly).

The question was asked to the Yahoo Answers community: “Why do we waste our lives away answering questions on Yahoo Answers?” and I simply answered the question with: “Why Not?” and someone in the community flagged me, and I got the notice they took my answer down.

Well I went ahead “wasted” (no pun intended) more of my time appealing it (like it really matters, it just pissed me off that someone would do that - my ego I guess) and I will have to let you know the results. I did find out that if my appeal is accepted that they will factor in less weight to the person who flagged it, and give me an extra 10 points - and lets hope for the community sake they do re-instate my answer, because it does in fact, defend Yahoo Answers.

Wouldn’t Yahoo Answers want that? Help me figure out where I am wrong here people?

Matt McGee,

It’s weird. It obviously doesn’t matter whether you’re defending them or not, but I think I recall reading somewhere (if not in the HELP then maybe on the YA blog) that they don’t like people answering a question with another question.

It seems really ticky-tack to me, regardless. I hope they reinstate your reply….

Mat Siltala,

Hey Matt, it seems like in this case the rule needs to be broken because of the lame question - don’t ya think?

James Harrison,

They thought you were a fly by commenter/answered. Your comment was too short and like Mr McGee said, you can’t answer questions with questions. You have to start a new question.

I used to spam the heck out of Yahoo answers before I found out that they nofollowed links.
But, I did notice that if you ask a question filled with a lot of keyword phrases and that everyone feels they knows the answer to, can drive traffic to your site.

Yahoo! answers does well on the SERP’s

Shirley Bass,

I have been watching Yahoo Answers.

You are right James Harrison. I signed up for a Yahoo! Answers account here a while back, because some of those answers did better than my keyword phrases. Kicked me right out of the #1 spot.

Thanks for the heads up on another way to use keyword phrases.

Learn Aikido,

It does seem a little trivial to be flagged like that, it seemed a reasonable answer to me. After all you were in away saying that it was worth while being a part of Y A.

Patrick

link builder,

I’ve been an active paticipant of yahooanswer too and its quite surprising they had suspended my account every now and then everytime I participate any question and make my site as a source. What’s wrong with that? I have archive of articles and blogs related to the topic so i make it as a source. Maybe they are not becoming SEO-friendly.
